Mid-Century Modern Furniture Design Ideas

Mid-century modern furniture is unique unto itself. The word ‘century’ immediately conjures the image of old, stuffy furniture, when in this case, nothing could be further from the truth. Mid-century modern furniture departs from the hard straight-back chairs and heavy wooden furniture that people associate with antiques, and instead embraces curves, colors and fabrics in its makeup.

Because mid-century modern furniture has such a distinct look, it is easy to blend different colors and types of furniture together in one room. For instance, the “Egg Chair” are a cornerstone of mid-century modern furniture are often made using a white fiberglass frame.

In designing a room, white egg-shaped chairs with different colors of interior fabric can be co-mingled to lend a more vibrant look to a room without making different colors of furniture look out of place or mismatched. In fact, quite the opposite look is achieved.

Danish Modern Furniture

The Egg chair was actually a type of mid-century Danish modern furniture, created by designer Arne Jacobsen in the 1950s. Shortly before he produced the Egg chair, Jacobsen developed the Swan chair, which enveloped its occupant in a palm-like embrace. Like the Egg chair, the interior of the fiberglass Swan chair was often made of foam rubber and covered with fabric.

Pretty obvious but I love the opinion. Art is a self expression and it is a beautiful way to share yourself through design and creation. I always wanted to build furniture, it is just so functional and organic. It is intertwined in our lives everyday, why not make it beautiful and artistic. Looking forward to more posts.
